Westgate Fabrications have undertaken specialise and secondary steelwork for Eric Wright Construction on a number of projects throughout the North West and Cheshire regions of the UK. The work, service that they provide are always carried out to the highest quality, produced on time to programme and installed on site professionally to exact Heath & Safety standards.

Westgate Fabrications were employed by Morgan Sindal on the Thames Water Ring Main extension between Stoke Newington & New River Head. The complicated project involved the construction of a new tunnel and connections to the live system that provide London its drinking water.

Westgate fabrications provided an innovative solution to installing large diameter pipe work Within an existing operational pump shaft, around 50m underground, which gained the project time, removing any disruption to the client. Their teams are friendly, dedicated and hardworking.

I would enjoy working with them again on similar projects.

Westgate Fabrications were subcontractor for the Costain at Hampton AWTW, carrying out works on three of our projects there. Hampton AWTW is the largest water treatment works in Europe supplying a third of the water to Greater London.

One project was the construction of a new liquid disinfection plant to replace the existing gas disinfection plant. Part of the works involved the possession shutdown of the four supply conduits. During the first shutdown Westgate removed a section of the 78” conduit and replaced this with a new tee section.

These works were carried out at the bottom of 10m deep shaft under confined space working conditions due to the gas present on site. The tee had to be fabricated and installed to tight tolerances to allow a future to connect. The programme for these works was extremely tight and all activities had to be planned with precise detail.

Westgate were an integral part of the planning team. They value engineered the connection detail between the existing conduit and the new tee. This allowed greater tolerances when cutting the existing conduit, reduced the amount of on-site welding required within the confined space and knocked at least a day off their programme. The possession shutdown was completed on programme with no effect on Customer supply.

As often happens when working on an existing plant, we would find that the existing assets when exposed were not as shown on the record drawings. When this happened we needed to quickly turn round a new design solution and fabrication. Westgate were able to advise on possible solutions and give a fast response on the fabrication & installation.

Westgate’s work was of various durations over a period of a year & Westgate maintained a consistent team of competent operatives.
